Who is Queen Kel The Creator?
I'm so glad you're here! My proper name is Kelly, but you can call me Kel. I'm an artist based out of Huntsville, Alabama exploring the depths of fluorescent acrylic paint and contemporary surrealism. I'm on and endless quest to express the ideas in my subconscious mind and bring them to life in excessive hue.
Let's rewind a little bit.
I've been painting professionally since 2020, but it took me a while to take that leap. Before the Queen was born, I dabbled in ink drawing, digital art, watercolor painting, and even ceramics and sculpture. Hence the name Queen Kel The Creator. I'm so much more than just a painter. Why would I want to box myself in like that? I create in a variety of mediums that all play a role in the artist I am today.
Growing up in West Bend, Wisconsin I wasn't exactly surrounded by arts and culture. I spent most of my time hiding in my bedroom with my sketchbook. After high school, I ended up taking the safe route and studying graphic design at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I quickly learned that designing on a computer wasn't my thing. It's not that I'm bad at it, I just don't get the same satisfaction and sense of purpose as I do from using my hands to create something beautiful - & tangible.
Several soul crushing design jobs later, I started taking my artistry much more seriously. I decided painting was where most of my potential was - and now, here we are!
LOWE MILL Gallery Show
I had the honor of presenting my "Duality In Bloom" flower series at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment in Huntsville, AL.
Each painting represents the human experience through fluorescent surreal nature scenes. Each 24 X 24” painting portrays one single larger than life flower. That flower is a symbol of you - the viewer - as you navigate and grow through life’s many complex challenges and accomplishments. Human beings are multifaceted from the inside out, and there is beauty within every inch. The good - the bad - and everything in between.
To further enhance the ever changing state of the human mind, the use of fluorescent paint changes the colors of each painting when exposed to various spectrums of RGB light.
MADNESS Gallery Show
This show at Gallery Forty Two was a delve into the psyche of 25+ world-renowned and up-and-coming artists from around the country, showcasing works in the style of street, pop, contemporary, and mixed media artworks that encompass the theme of ‘Madness.'
I hope to continue to share my work in galleries all over!
